Pressure the PM for climate justice at COP26
The time to tackle the climate crisis is running out. Next month, the UK will host world leaders at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow. This is our chance.
We have ten years left to keep global heating to a maximum of 1.5°c and avoid catastrophic climate violence. Record levels of greenhouse gases are already leading to killer floods, droughts and famines that disproportionately affect the world’s poorest and most marginalised people – those least responsible for climate breakdown. Rich countries, including the UK, have failed to do their fair share to reduce emissions or address the inequalities that make communities vulnerable to climate violence.
The UK’s wealth was built on the back of centuries of colonial exploitation and resource extraction from the Global South. Rather than recognise and redress this injustice, the UK is maintaining it: slashing the aid budget and continuing to subsidise and support the fossil fuel industry.
As COP26 fast approaches we are standing at a crossroads with a clear choice: tweak the same failing global systems and face irreversible climate crisis, increasing poverty and global inequality – or reimagine a world where protecting people and planet comes first.
Email Prime Minister Boris Johnson now to demand ambitious action at COP26, and a Global Green New Deal.
