Defend Indian farmers!
Indian farmers and workers are taking to the streets in some of the biggest protests the world has ever seen. They are fighting for their rights and livelihoods. You can show them your support by taking action.
Farmers and workers unions have been protesting since November against new agriculture laws that represent a corporate takeover of the food system in India, handing power to big business and threatening the livelihoods of millions. This is a global issue: corporations are gaining more and more control over our food.
The farmers in India are on the frontlines of this struggle. They have faced violent repression by the Indian government, with police using water cannons and tear gas against peaceful protestors.
The UK labour movement stands with the farmers in India. The General Secretaries of 17 major unions signed a statement of solidarity, alongside the Trade Union Congress and War on Want. Will you add your voice and lift up the farmers’ demands, showing the farmers that working people everywhere are with them?
Please email the Indian High Commission in the UK, urging the Indian government to respect the farmers’ demands.
