Prime Minister: Be Bold

Incoming UK Prime Minister, MP Andy Burnham, must take bold action that delivers climate justice, equality and human rights for all:

1. End UK support for Israel’s war crimes against Palestinians ▼

Israel is committing genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people. The UK government must stop arming Israel, ban trade with Israel and its illegal settlements on Palestinian land, and use sanctions to hold Israel to account for its war crimes.

2. Tax the super-rich ▼

The super-rich are getting richer while the rest of us deal with rising prices and struggling public services. The UK government must increase taxes on individual assets over £10 million to end extreme wealth, and raise taxes on polluting fossil-fuel corporations which rake in billions in profit every year.

3. Take progressive action on climate ▼

The only way to tackle the climate crisis is a just transition away from fossil fuels, to fairer societies built on well-funded public services, renewable energy and equality. This starts with blocking new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, including the Rosebank oil field, and providing funds for a just transition in the Global South – money the UK owes for its historic role in causing the climate crisis.

The crises we’re facing, in the UK and abroad, are the result of decisions made by those in power – governments and corporations – and a rigged political and economic system that benefits the super-rich at the expense of ordinary people.

Burnham’s government will have the power to deliver change – but he must be bold enough to act in the interests of people and planet.
