The UK government is expected to decide on Rosebank – the country's largest undeveloped oil field – in the coming weeks. Reform UK, the Conservatives and US President Donald Trump are all pushing hard for it to go ahead.
That's not a coincidence. Rosebank is exactly the kind of project Trump's "drill, baby, drill" agenda was built to protect – keeping the world hooked on fossil fuels and putting oil and gas corporation profits ahead of people and planet.
But more North Sea oil and gas drilling won't lower UK energy bills, food prices or petrol costs. Even the head of the International Energy Agency has said that projects like Rosebank "would not change much for the UK's energy security, nor would they change the price of oil and gas".
That's because most of Rosebank's oil is expected to be exported and sold on the international market. It won't protect UK households from rising costs or reduce the UK's exposure to volatile fossil fuel prices.
With a decision expected soon, MPs still have a chance to influence the outcome. A parliamentary motion has been tabled calling on the government to reject Rosebank – but it will only have impact if MPs support it.
Write to your MP today and ask them to sign the motion and help build pressure on the government to reject Rosebank.
