Big fossil-fuel polluters like Shell and BP have made billions from fuelling climate and ecosystem collapse. Now, they need to pay to fix it.
Fossil-fuel giants are some of the richest corporations in human history – at times, Shell alone makes over £20,000 in profit every minute. These fossil-fuel polluters knew about climate breakdown decades before almost anyone else – and covered it up to protect their profits.
Now, the poorest and most marginalised – particularly in the Global South, and working-class communities in the Global North – are bearing the brunt of climate and ecosystem collapse, and rampant inequality, with the cost-of-living skyrocketing. They have done the least to cause these crises, yet are the hardest hit.
We have the solutions to tackle the climate crisis and inequality. We must put people and the planet before profit, to build fairer economies and societies built on equality and justice.
It’s time for polluting fossil-fuel corporations to pay up for their role in fuelling and profiting from the climate crisis.
