The UK is letting the US use UK military bases in its illegal war on Iran – despite the UK Prime Minister asserting that UK bases can only be used for “defensive” action.
Whatever US President Trump and Israel’s President Netanyahu may claim, this war is illegal.
The UK government must end its involvement now. The UK is at risk of being pulled in further to this illegal war – repeating the grave mistakes the UK government made in Iraq – and once again breaking international law.
So far, the US and Israel have killed over 1,300 people in Iran. Last week, over 150 schoolgirls were killed when bombs fell on the playground of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in southern Iran.
At the same time, Israel has escalated its attacks on Lebanon into a fully-fledged invasion – with soldiers on the ground – while threatening to seize 10% of Lebanon. Israel has blocked food and aid from entering the Gaza Strip once again, while the US threatens communities everywhere.
Escalation is a political choice.
While the US and Israel steadily and deliberately extend their violence, the UK must uphold international law, end its support for this illegal war, and call for the US and Israel to immediately de-escalate.
