A Ceasefire is Not Justice

Palestine flag being waved in front of Westminster Abbey, London

A ceasefire has been agreed – and repeatedly broken by Israel – but justice for Palestinians means more than a pause in Israel’s violence.

Justice means an end to Israel’s occupation and apartheid in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, and accountability for those who have carried out and enabled war crimes. It means self-determination and the right for Palestinians to live in dignity and freedom.

A ceasefire cannot mean a return to ‘normal’ – to continued UK complicity, new arms licences and trade agreements with Israel, and silence while Palestinians are killed, displaced, and imprisoned.

While Israel feigns interest in ‘peace’, its system of oppression continues – backed by governments and corporations that profit from it.

If a ceasefire is to have meaning, it must mark the beginning of justice for Palestinians.

A ceasefire is not justice. End UK complicity, suspend all arms sales to Israel, and support international accountability for war crimes.
