There is not a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip – Israel is still committing genocide against the Palestinian people. The UK must hold Israel to account – rather than continuing to arm and trade with it as normal.
Since the 'ceasefire' started on 10 October 2025, Israel has killed more than 450 Palestinians in Gaza, injured more than 1,250, and destroyed thousands more Palestinian homes. Israel has not withdrawn to the lines agreed in the deal – it still occupies more than half of the Gaza Strip and steals more Palestinian land daily.
Israel continues to block food, medicine and shelter from entering Gaza. Most of the 2 million Palestinians in Gaza are sheltering in flimsy tents and makeshift structures during plunging temperatures.
On top of this, in January 2026, Israel blocked 37 humanitarian organisations from working in Gaza. This is another genocidal act, making Gaza even more unliveable for Palestinians – and ensuring that there will be no international presence left in Gaza to bear witness to Israel’s crimes.
It’s no surprise that Israel is breaking the ceasefire deal – it has a long history of breaking ceasefires and international law without consequence.
The terms of the current deal are heavily unequal leaving the power of Israel – as the military occupier – unchecked over the people it has committed genocide against. While all Israeli captives have been released, over 9,000 Palestinians, including children, remain in Israel’s prisons. The deal calls for Palestinians to disarm, but not Israel; and it does nothing to end Israel’s illegal occupation.
The UK has failed to hold Israel to account for two years of genocide, decades of illegal occupation – and countless war crimes throughout.
At this crucial moment – when there should be an end in sight to Israel’s genocide – the UK government must push for a fairer ceasefire, and pressure Israel to uphold it.
