The UK’s climate debt — the money it owes due to historical and current emissions that have contributed to the climate crisis — is estimated to be in excess of £1 trillion. The UK government has not paid its debt, and at the same time nearly double that amount ( net £1.7 trillion ) is extracted in wealth and resources from the Global South by governments, corporations and banks in the Global North every year.
Join War on Want, the Climate Justice Coalition, Fossil Free London and others for the Global Day of Action for Climate Finance on Tuesday 11 June, to demand the UK government #PayUp what it owes for contributing to the climate crisis.
On 13 June, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be heading to a high stakes meeting of G7 leaders (of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, United States) in Turin, Italy. The G7 summit is our chance to ramp up the pressure on the UK and G7 governments.
This is one of our last chances to create meaningful action on climate before the general election in July, we look forward to seeing you there!
